In this way the eLECT actually works better than FOX´s Terralogic in the way that it doesn´t take that initial hit to open up the compression damping.

On the other hand I was positively surprised how quickly the fork went from locked to open mode – even the first hits after crossing the climb´s apex were with full travel and smooth suspension action. What was very much noticeable, was how efficiently the bike felt when climbing out of the saddle. Part of it may be the short travel and direct feel of the fork in general, but despite the digital On/Off settings, the transitions were hardly noticeable. To my positive surprise I hardly really noticed the system in the swoopy trail.

I started out riding the eLECT in Auto mode – leaving all damping adjustments to the internal sensors and workings. The bike I rode was a carbon hard tail by a MAGURA staffer with 100m of travel – pretty much spot on what the eLECT system is aimed at. Very easy to work with indeed.īut how will the system act out on the trail? How will it feel when you hit an obstacle when going uphill? How quickly will it open up when the trail turn downward? Somehow the idea of a system only working with the tilt of the bike didn´t add up for me and so I was curious about these first ride impressions.Īs a testing loop I chose Sedona´s rolling Slim-Shady Trail which abounds in fast ups and downs with several rougher sections along the way. If you want it to open up only when going down steeper stuff, do the calibration with the rear wheels slightly elevated. If you desire the system to lock out only when going up steeper pitches, simply calibrate the system with the front wheel pointing upward. Now the system is set and detects whether the bike is pointed uphill (which automatically locks the fork) or downhill (which opens up the compression damping).

Of course we also mounted the manual lock-out – that links to the damping unit via ANT+ technology … but more on that later.Ĭalibrating the systems is also super simple – set it on level ground and press the button on top of the eLECT for 4 sec.

Interesting to know for owners of current or even older MAGURA fork models – the eLECT is backwards compatible, too. Since all workings (battery, sensors, micro processor and servo motor) are integrated into the clean looking unit it takes no further steps. Just before leaving we got an opportunity to get a ride on board an eLECT equipped bike on one of the Sedona trails … therefore even before we get into the other MAGURA ride impressions … here a few thoughts about the eLECT on trail:Ĭonverting a MAGURA fork to eLECT is dead easy – unscrew the standard compression unit and screw in the eLECT. It was only during last week´s press camp that we first laid eyes on the all new electronic damping unit MAGURA eLECT ( here).
